Arizona Network Director of Athletics, Jon Rickey created a study schedule for his oldest son years ago when he was in the seventh grade to help keep him on track during finals week. “I like schedules,” said Rickey. “We wanted a way in which we knew when our boys were studying, how they were studying, and what they were studying.”

Rickey admittedly has a few OCD tendencies. “Being a coach and teacher my whole life, I like planning out things, and keeping things to the minute of what is happening. You should see me at Disneyland!” Rickey also created the schedule in to avoid contentious conversations with his sons, saying things like, “Shouldn’t you be studying?” or, “Are you sure you should be watching TV right now?” They have their schedule, and both parents and students know when and what they are studying.

This schedule (or playbook) can be modified based on your child and/or family’s needs, but we encourage you to use it as a resource to help your students in upper grades prepare for a successful finals week.
