‘Tis the season of office festivities, where a touch of holiday magic filled the air and coworkers secretly transformed into merry, yet mischievous elves, all in the pursuit of spreading joy. Great Hearts dedicated Office Managers recently gathered for an offsite Holiday Lunch, where they shared more than just food and laughter—they participated in their annual white elephant ornament exchange. There was a lot of hiding and stealing during the exchange, but for some, it wasn’t about finding the perfect ornament. Pat Del Duca from Archway Veritas, was on a quest to bring home the fun-filled boxes that the ornaments came in.

“I know you cannot judge a book by its cover, but since I was a little kid the time and care a person takes to package a gift has always been an attraction for me,” said Del Duca. “That in itself is a gift and what is inside is just a bonus.”

The role of an Office Manager (OM) is often a behind-the-scenes endeavor, a position that requires a unique blend of administrative prowess, problem-solving skills, and unwavering dedication. At Great Hearts Academies, these individuals are not just integral to the smooth functioning of our schools, but they are also celebrated and appreciated for their tireless efforts, especially during their annual December celebration.

Kathy Lund addressing Office Managers at December celebration

Kathy Lund, Director of Business Systems at Great Hearts, highlights a heartwarming tradition that adds a touch of joy to the lives of these dedicated professionals. “Every year at the December Office Managers’ Meeting and Holiday Celebration, we do a white elephant ornament exchange where all the OM’s that want to participate exchange ornaments,” said Lund “It’s a lot of fun and they all really get into the exchange.”

The white elephant ornament exchange is more than just a festive activity. It’s a testament to the strong sense of community that exists among the Great Hearts Office Managers throughout the network. The exchange allows these individuals, who are accustomed to managing the intricacies of the academies, to unwind and share in the joy of the season. Many have accumulated years of ornaments through these exchanges, each representing a cherished moment shared with colleagues. “I have 10 ornaments on my tree and enjoy looking back at them to remember the fun we all had together as I collected these ornaments,” shared Lund.

Great Hearts Office Managers are the backbone of the academies they serve, managing the daily operations with grace, poise, and an unparalleled attention to detail. They are adept at problem-solving and play a vital role in ensuring that the institution remains a great place to learn.

Their positive attitude and enthusiasm infuse their respective offices with energy, creating an environment conducive to both productivity and personal growth. They go above and beyond to keep everyone informed and contribute significantly to the overall success of their academies.

The annual white elephant ornament exchange is an example of how Great Hearts recognizes and appreciates the efforts of its Office Managers. Their invaluable contributions, both during the holiday season and throughout the year, make a lasting impact on the entire Great Hearts community. The commitment of these individuals to making Great Hearts a better place for students is truly admirable. As we celebrate the holiday season, let us also celebrate the dedicated Great Hearts Office Managers who make our academic community thrive.
