Dual Enrollment Serving 500+ High School Students at Great Hearts

Since the launch of the Great Hearts Dual Enrollment program at the beginning of the school year, over 500 scholars have enrolled in over 670 dual enrollment classes through our pilot partner institutions, Southeastern University in Florida and Arizona Christian University.

“Something that we are becoming much more intentional about in the last couple of years is the evaluation and refinement of our high school program,” explained Mac Esau, Executive Director for Great Hearts Arizona’s upper schools. “First and foremost, we want to make sure that we are doing the work we profess to be doing to the best of our ability, and that is to cultivate the hearts and minds of all of our students in the pursuit of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful. Secondly, we want to make sure that as many students as possible are able to remain with us through the full training and graduate as seniors from all of our schools.”

We announced in the summer that Great Hearts now has three pathways for scholars to earn college credit while attending a Great Hearts Arizona academy through Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and CLEP Testing. The response has been positive as Great Hearts Leadership has been intentional about the evaluation and refinement of the high school program.

You have until January 13th, 2025 to register for second semester courses, that include: 12th Grade HL IV, Spanish IV, French IV, German IV, Greek II, and Latin V.

“We are excited to offer dual enrollment to Great Hearts students in grades 10, 11, and 12 during this pilot year,” said Roslyn Fletcher, Director of College Counseling in Arizona. “The dual enrollment committee meets regularly, and we are implementing some changes for the 2025-2026 school year to make the Configio registration process even easier and more accessible for students and parents across all thirteen prep academies.”

April Heuseveldt, College Counselor at Trivium Prep, said they had a great deal of interest and enthusiasm from Trivium Prep scholars and families surrounding dual enrollment offered this year. “Nearly 50% of our eligible 10th-12th grade scholars have taken advantage of this opportunity,” she said. “We look forward to seeing our relationships with SEU and ACU grow during our first year to offer college credit through their nationally accredited universities.”

Kelley Crandall, a parent at Scottsdale Prep said her family is grateful to Great Hearts for offering dual enrollment as a new option this year. “Our daughters are a senior and junior this year.  We are thrilled the dual enrollment program will give them the opportunity to earn college credits prior to graduating high school. And some colleges we are considering provide a higher “weight” for dual enrollment when recalculating GPA for admissions,” she shared. “Going into college with approved credits will provide a strong base for them to begin their freshman year with confidence. Crandall also shared that she is happy to know there is no change to the already rich classical educational curriculum offered in her daughters’ classrooms by existing teachers. “We are looking forward to the expanded offerings next year as the program continues to flourish.”

“We appreciate the interest in our dual enrollment offerings this year and will evaluate the program at the end of the semester and again at the conclusion of the school year to determine additional opportunities to enhance the experience for our high school students,” explained Fletcher.

Fletcher strongly recommends that families contact their academy and discuss options with their college counselor. “We have 20 college counselors in our network who are eager to support you and your students as you make these decisions,” she said. “I would ask that you reach out to your college counselor either by phone or by email and schedule an in-person appointment to talk about the different options that might be best for your student. It’s the academic history of your student along with your student’s future college goals that are important to discuss when deciding which of these options is the best fit for your student.”
