Giving Tuesday – Archway Arete

What makes Archway Arete such a special place? The answer is: our community!

Today we’re sharing a glimpse of Mr. Nate Evan’s story. Mr. Evans has been an Art teacher at Archway Arete for over five years, but before he started teaching the young minds of Arete, he, himself, was a student teacher at Arete Preparatory Academy just next door.

When I asked him what he thought makes teaching art at the elementary school level so special he didn’t hesitate.

“The answer is simple — it’s the kids! Our beautiful, amazing, sweet, funny, charming, smart, scholars! My wife and I didn’t have kids… but now I feel like I have 270 children! It’s a lovely gift!”

He added that besides our young scholars, what makes Archway Arete so special is the wonderful people: the teachers and staff.

“Everyone is so kind, inspiring, and friendly. We’re a team, and we all care for and support each other. Our administration team is especially supportive and inspiring: Neil Gillingham, Cassie Mason, Lucia DeMeo, and Bre Roberts. I genuinely love and admire our leadership team. I’m not sure I could teach anywhere else.”

Mr. Evans is also a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of over 40 children’s books, and he told me that working at an elementary school is a never-ending source of inspiration.

His message to scholars who want to pursue a creative career is to follow their passion.

“If I were a young artist now, there are so many new and exciting fields opening up in art, music, and design. Creativity is on display all around us! I see the natural, joyful creativity of children, and it’s magical. Our young scholars are the new artists, musicians, and storytellers who are going to invent the world of the future! I cannot wait to see what their imaginative minds create!”
