Giving Tuesday at Chandler Prep Facebook Twitter Email This Post Chandler Prep December 3, 2024 Ask anyone at Chandler Prep where the rabbits, mice and other animals are, and they’ll all point in the direction of room 211! The Life Science room where Mrs. Mary Goodwin has been teaching at Great Hearts since 2009. Her classroom is always a buzz with an assortment of creatures! Mrs. Goodwin has been blessed to share her classroom with many different classroom pets over the years, including guinea pigs, a panther chameleon, a green anole, a chubby frog, a ball python, hermit crabs, poison dart frogs (not poisonous when bred in captivity), and a magnificent, bearded dragon, Thor. Currently, however, she has two adorable dwarf rabbits, Loki and Darwin, and three playful rats, Remy, Gus Gus, and Reepicheep and many more!! GIVE TO CHANDLER PREP Mrs. Goodwin’s passion for animals, Nature, and health, makes Life Science a perfect fit. She finds everything about Life Science inspiring because she considers all life a miracle. Delving into the amazing complexity of even the simplest organisms and then realizing the incredible connectedness and interdependence of all living things is a continual source of wonder for Mrs. Goodwin. “When students start to understand this, I see their view of the natural world and their place in it expand by leaps and bounds, and their sense of wonder is ignited.” According to Mrs. Goodwin, it is very easy to inspire students in Life Science because most of them are keenly interested in the topics that are covered. Now teaching for 48 years, Mrs. Goodwin finds “Chandler Prep to be the very best of the fine schools I have been privileged to teach at throughout my career as an educator.” The strong community, which includes all our supportive parents, along with the culture we build and the classical curriculum we present, are unique and not something to be taken for granted. Mrs. Goodwin states, “I can honestly say I look forward to coming to work each day and spending time with my students and colleagues.” Do you have a story or know of a story that you would like to see featured at Great Hearts?
