Giving Tuesday – Chandler Prep Facebook Twitter Email This Post Chandler Prep November 29, 2022 Chandler Prep is a classical preparatory academy that offers our students a transformative educational experience and continually seeks to add programs to its vibrant school culture. One such program, Peer Tutoring, was started by Mr. Ferbrache, Assistant Headmaster of Middle School. The program initially launched a few years back and was stifled by the pandemic in 2020. Last year, with a stronger focus it has made a come-back and has become a successful program. “I have learned what it takes to do it well,” says Mr. Ferbrache. Instead of using student volunteers in the program, we now have teachers nominate students. These students must meet a certain list of standards and be responsible high-performing students. Last year, we started peer tutoring only in math and it flourished. This year, we have expanded with science and foreign language and will focus on these core subjects. Peer tutoring offers a fresh perspective on tutoring and the benefits of this method seem limitless. When students teach other, comprehension comes easily because the teacher is some-one of a similar age. With the Peer Tutoring program thriving at CPA, Mr. Ferbrache is looking ahead to expand the program across the campus to Archway Chandler. “How great would it be for our school culture to role model across the school,” he states. The next expansion would entail 9th and 10th graders tutoring 5th graders. With this expansion, both the students tutoring, and the students being tutored will be nominated by their teachers. Currently, the Peer tutoring program if offered before school in the CPA forum and after school in the CPA cafeteria. As the Peer Tutoring program expands and prospers it will be another “great-hearted” program, rooted in virtue, that seeks to better its students. Give to Chandler Prep
