Giving Tuesday – Lincoln Prep

Lincoln Prep November 22, 2023

Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen and familyIt’s not every day you hear about a husband-and-wife teaching in the same school let alone in the same department; but for Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen teaching together at Lincoln Prep is the perfect fit and a matter of the heart.

According to Mrs. Rasmussen, “I was drawn to Great Hearts because not only are the arts encouraged at Great Hearts, but fine arts courses are built into the curriculum – I love that every one of our students is exposed to fine arts. When I was younger the arts transformed my life and taught me to believe in myself. I believe that participating in the arts ultimately shapes people into better human beings.”

The Rasmussen duo is focused on developing a deeply rooted fine arts program at Lincoln Prep that is grounded in the idea that the arts are for everyone.

Mrs. RasmussenBefore Mrs. Rasmussen joined Lincoln Prep, our students didn’t have access to theater classes before 11th grade. After her arrival, Mrs. Rasmussen established a theater program that allows all Prep students to participate in theater starting in 6th grade. In just over a year, she has produced three theater productions, and this semester over 50 students signed up to be a part of the production, A Dickens Christmas Carol.

Just last year, Mr. Rasmussen made the decision to join our academy when a middle school music teacher position opened. According to Mr. Rasmussen, “The decision was easy. I loved the idea of being part of a community that prioritized the fine arts.” Since joining Lincoln Prep, Mr. Rasmussen has revamped our 6th grade musical theory curriculum and re-established our choir.

When I asked Mr. Rasmussen what he loved most about teaching music, he didn’t hesitate. “I love that the arts allow our students to be expressive. The arts give each student the power and permission to be authentic.”

Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen for sharing your passion for the arts with our Lincoln Prep students; we are grateful for the beautiful work you do every day to develop both the hearts and minds of our students through the arts. And thank you to ALL families who support our Community Investment campaign at Lincoln Prep; without your partnership, we would not exist.

On this Giving Tuesday, we ask you to support our Community Investment campaign so that we can continue our work and serve our students. Your gift of any amount makes a difference!
