Great Hearts Harveston is thrilled to announce that their Open Enrollment period begins October 9th through December 1st, 2023, giving families in the Baton Rouge communities the opportunity to secure a spot and hopefully receive an offer of enrollment for their K-8 child to experience the new tuition-free, public charter school for the 2024-25 school year.

Open Enrollment is for families who are not currently attending Great Hearts Harveston to submit an online application for the upcoming school year. Once the Open Enrollment period is completed, lottery determination begins.

The Lottery for Great Hearts Harveston takes place on December 6th, 2023. Any application submitted during the open enrollment period is eligible for the Lottery. When we receive more applications than there are seats available, an academy and grade independent lottery is held to determine the waitlist order. The Lottery assigns a random number to each application and then the applications are ordered on the waitlist based on the lottery number, application type, and priority status.

After the Lottery, Great Hearts Harveston will extend offers to families according to their number on the waitlist and fill any available seats for the next school year. Offers are sent in writing and families are given a deadline to accept their offer and complete registration.

Great Hearts Harveston is the first Great Hearts Academy to open in Louisiana. The newly built state-of-the-art academy is over 76 thousand square feet and has 39 classrooms, three special education rooms with three breakout rooms each, two art rooms, a music room, science lab, study halls, a performing arts theatre, and a collegiate-size gymnasium. The class sizes are intentionally kept small, allowing for individual attention, both academic and personal, increased participation, and better communication between our teachers and students.

“Students learn about historical events, literary characters, stories, poetry, scientific facts, and mathematical proofs,” said Head of School Sam Heisman. “They read whole literary and philosophical works in great depth, and they learn to approach books with a sense of wonder and depth of inquiry.”

The school desires to provide a fulfilling, educational experience that is characterized by order and joy in Baton Rouge. Great Hearts academies are filled with carefully chosen faculty who demonstrate expertise in their subject area, while also exhibiting the wonder and moral character we seek to develop in our students.  This pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty will inspire and shape students into the best versions of themselves, setting in motion growth that will continue the rest of their lives.
