Great Hearts Northern Oaks Student Earns Congressional Nomination and West Point Appointment Facebook Twitter Email This Post Great Hearts Northern Oaks April 23, 2024 Ryan Matson, a member of the Class of 2024 at Great Hearts Northern Oaks, has been awarded a Congressional Nomination from United States Congressman Tony Gonzales (serving the 23rd District of Texas) and has accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he will join the Class of 2028. Ryan Matson has excelled academically, athletically, and in his extracurricular and civic endeavors during his time at Great Hearts Northern Oaks where he has maintained an impressive 3.99 GPA. On the athletic field, Ryan has been a standout performer. As a member of the varsity baseball team since 2021, Ryan has earned numerous accolades, including being a three-year letterman, receiving the Coach’s Award, and being a two-time recipient of the Griffin Award. He has been a key player, serving as Co-Captain during his junior year and leading the team in all offensive statistics. His efforts have been recognized with Second Team All-District honors in his freshman year and First Team All-District honors in his sophomore and junior years. In addition to baseball, Ryan has also been a four-year letterman on the varsity basketball team since 2020. He was honored as the Varsity Most Improved Player and received Second Team All-District recognition in his junior year and First Team All-District recognition in his senior year. Ryan’s commitment to service and leadership extends beyond the field and court. As an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, Ryan led the construction of a Killed in Action (KIA) memorial, honoring the ultimate sacrifice of Shavano Park Veterans. His efforts were recognized by local media and unveiled to KIA family members in attendance. Ryan’s dedication to civic engagement was further demonstrated through his participation in Texas Boys State in 2023, where he ran for Governor and was elected State Delegate for the Federalist Party and Associate Justice, Court of Appeals. During the summer of 2023, Ryan volunteered as a fundraiser for veterans’ mental health care, raising money for Endeavors, a non-profit in San Antonio, as part of his Camino de Santiago del Norte hike in Spain. Ryan Matson’s achievements reflect his exceptional character, leadership, and commitment to excellence. We look forward to seeing his continued success as a member of the Class of 2028 at West Point.
